For
those of you new to the league, we want you to know that
we are affiliated with Little League International through
Williamsport, PA. We follow their charter rules. Our goal,
locally, is to see to it that our children learn to play
the game, have fun and develop their skills as ball players,
teammates and competitors!
Please be advised that as a part of our 2008 program we
plan to again offer a Farm League division for 2nd graders
interested in baseball regardless of their League Age.
Furthermore, all 2nd grade girls regardless of their League
Age will be eligible to participate in the Minor League
softball program.
Aside from our Farm League program (baseball only); the
divisions within our Little League program are the same
for baseball and softball (exception – Junior League
Softball).
Little League is for boys and girls league age 8-12 (see
2008 Age Determination folder on our web site for actual
dates – different for baseball and softball). There
are two levels within Little League: Minor League and
Major League. In the Minor League division the emphasis
is on skill development and learning the basics of the
game. Youngsters play a variety of positions and bunting
and stealing are not allowed. In the Major League division
the game is played more traditionally. Bunting and stealing
are introduced at this level so the game is more competitive.
Tryouts
Tryouts are held for Little League players (aged 8-12,
includes Farm League) not previously assigned to a Major
League team. All players not previously assigned to a
Major League team are encouraged to tryout! Every child
that tries out will be placed on a team, either Minor
or Major League. Any child who chooses not to try out
will be placed on a Minor League team. All players, once
assigned to a Major League team, will remain in the Major
Leagues throughout their Little League years. However,
we do redraft Major League teams (baseball and softball)
on an annual basis. Tryouts will take place on March 29th
– exact details will be posted on the web site in
early March.
Softball
and Baseball Tryouts – Saturday March 29th (see
web site - Exact details TBD)
Pre-Season
Clinics
These are optional clinics for boys and girls aged 8-12,
includes Farm League. The idea of these clinics is two-fold.
First, it’s a good chance to get out the glove (find
the glove) and begin preparing for the upcoming season.
Second, for the younger players, it’s an opportunity
to find out what will be happening and required at the
tryouts. The clinics will take place on March 24 - exact
details will be posted on the web site in early March.
Softball
and Baseball Clinics – Saturday March 22th (see
web site - Exact details TBD)

Junior
League Softball is for girl’s league age
13-14 (beginning with the 2006 season league age 12 year
olds will have the option to “play up”
at the Junior League level). These teams are required
to travel to other communities to play. Registration for
this program will take place in March (details TBA).
Babe
Ruth Baseball is for boy’s league age 13-15
(beginning with the 2006 season league age 12 year olds
will have the option to “play up” at
the Babe Ruth level). At this age, the game is played
on a full-size diamond. This program is not affiliated
with Little League International – it operates under
the Windham Babe Ruth charter. These teams are required
to travel to other communities to play. Registration
and an informational session for the 2008 season will
take place Thursday March 27 at
7pm in the HMS Cafeteria. Please contact Rich Strabley
(939-9567) with any questions.
