YLL Major League Baseball Rules

All games are played under the Official Little League International Regulations, Playing Rules, and Operating Policies (the “Little League Rulebook”). For the latest edition of the Little League rules, please download the official Little League Rulebook App or visit the Little League Rules and Regulations page. Coaches, parents, and players should review the official rules for any situation not covered below.

Below are the local rules for the Yarmouth Little League’s Major League Division.

Standard Rules

In the Majors Division, the following standard Little League rules are in full effect (no local modifications):

  • Infield Fly Rule
  • Dropped Third Strike Rule
  • Full stealing (including stealing home)

Playing Time

  • Regular Season (typical roster of 11 players):
    • No player should sit more than two innings per game.
    • Every player must sit at least one inning.
    • Every player should play at least one full inning in an infield position each game (pitching and catching both count as infield positions).
  • Exceptions may only be made for legitimate safety concerns as determined by coaches and parents.
  • Playoffs: No player should sit more than three innings. Players may play the entire game if needed, even when some teammates sit two innings.

Pitching Opportunities

Coaches should make every reasonable effort to give interested players opportunities to pitch and develop their skills — especially during practices and when appropriate in games.

Run Rule

  • Official Little League run rules are in effect:
    • 10-run lead after 4 complete innings
    • 15-run lead after 3 complete innings
  • The game ends for scoring purposes at these thresholds.
  • Coaches may agree to continue the game as a scrimmage for additional innings. Pitch counts must still be recorded.
  • Scrimmage decisions should be made inning by inning. No new inning may begin after the 2-hour mark. Any started scrimmage inning should be completed unless affected by darkness or the next game’s schedule.

Game Timing

  • Games are scheduled for 6 innings or 2 hours, whichever comes first. The current inning must be completed.

These rules are designed to promote player development, fair playing time, and competitive play at the Majors level.
